FARIA Renewables and HUAWEI join forces to drive energy storage innovation in Greece
HUAWEI and FARIA Renewables are proud to announce a strategic partnership aimed at advancing the development and operation of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Greece. The collaboration was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), underscoring the shared commitment of both companies to accelerating the energy transition and driving sustainability in the renewable energy sector.
FARIA Renewables, a rapidly expanding Greek renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP), is committed to building a diversified portfolio of renewable energy projects, aiming to integrate a significant capacity of storage projects and innovative solutions. Energy storage is key to securing constant supply of renewable energy to power systems, providing solutions to achieve flexibility, enhance grid reliability and power quality, and accommodate the scale-up of renewable energy.
HUAWEI is a key player in supporting the global transition to renewable energy sources and is developing cutting-edge solutions for energy storage systems specifically designed for high-voltage grid applications. These solutions, not only offer increased resilience, flexibility, and efficiency, they also support the innovative Grid Forming technology, which will play an important role in the future development of power grids worldwide. HUAWEI will supply FARIA Renewables with innovative and reliable PV & BESS solutions while providing comprehensive technical support for the execution and operation of up to 1GWh projects in the following years.
The two companies recently signed a contract for FARIA Renewables' first BESS project in Greece. This is a pioneering project with a nominal power of 49.9MW and a storage capacity of 100MWh, which is expected to be put into operation within 2025. The project has succeeded in, based on its bid, the 2nd auction for standalone batteries, held by RAAEY. The project will be connected, operated, and will maintain this performance at the connection point with the Greek Electricity Transmission System for at least ten years of operation. The delivery of the equipment is expected in the summer of 2025, further highlighting HUAWEI's ability to production capacity, advanced logistics for short deliveries, and rapid response to customer requirements to provide customized solutions.
Faria Renewables strategic planning and goals for energy storage are fully aligned with the national goals and the company is committed to contributing effectively and promptly to those goals towards achieving the energy transition and the more effective penetration of RES projects into the grid.
HUAWEI’s technology, combined with FARIA Renewables' expertise and know-how, are setting new benchmarks for efficiency, sustainability, and innovation in the renewable energy sector
Ms Thalia Valkouma, President & CEO of FARIA Renewables, stated: "I am excited to announce our cooperation with HUAWEI, one of the world's leading companies in energy storage. We are confident that we will leverage the capabilities and experience of both companies, working together towards a sustainable future. We share the same values, we recognize energy storage as an important step for Greece’s clean energy transition and have the same vision and willingness to contribute to the effort for a greener society.”
Mr. Dimitris Kintsakis, CEO & Vice President of Faria Renewables, added: “FARIA Renewables, through this collaboration and the implementation of its first BESS project within 2025, integrates innovative applications and initiatives that form part of its strategic plan for a more sustainable and greener future. Our goal is for these initiatives, beyond contributing to the green transition, to also provide added value to the local community, as well as to the research and academic community, and to facilitate the dissemination of this progress, knowledge, and experience.”
Mr. Ren Fujun, CEO South-East Europe of Huawei, said: "We are really pleased to collaborate with FARIA Renewables on this innovative energy storage project. The signing of the memorandum of understanding between our companies confirms our commitment to developing sustainable energy solutions and creating added value for society and the environment."
